This here footage is the Northern Hang #2 on the Superior Hiking Trail in Northern Minnesota. Twenty of us hammock hangers who are all members of HammockForums.net …. the treasure trove of hammock info, got together for 3 nights of backpacking in the cold. Most of us had never met yet it is like hiking with old friends …….. fun for me as I usually solo camp. We started in Crosby Manitou State Park as the SHT (Superior Hiking Trail) runs through it and it is a backpack only park. One of my very favorite spots up there. Had temps of 21º the first night, second night about 23º with snow and high winds and about 23º the last night. Fun for all to test their cold weather systems. Thursday several of us got up there early and camped all over ……. Friday we had a big “meet n’ greet” potluck dinner and Saturday walked around 8.30 miles in high winds to camp. Some had really never backpacked and now the hook is set!! Glad for you to be watching our frolic in the piney woods ……… Whoooooo Buddy!
*i realized recently i mistakingly described the rock formations of the area so to clear up this mistake, please note that the rocks forming these canyon walls is Sandstone called the Schnebly Hill formation and was layed down over millennia caused from the expansion and retraction of shallow seas in the area. Truth is that several times in Earth’s history Arizona was under water* here’s a group backpack, camp and other such nonsense involving some amazing camping hammocks. These hammocks are made for camping and the gear used in this vid will keep us warm in temps down to the LOW thirties. The black tarp is a DIY project that has enough coverage for very foul weather, were talking blowing rain, snow, even hail. We are all season campers… so we need all season gear! you can see the ends are catenary cut (curved) so that the tarp will pitch nice and tight. Also, I have one end pitched with my hiking pole to give me a view of the creekside scenery. The hammocks themselves are designed to open up diagonally so that you can lay basically flat. Exept the “bridge” style hammock that lays very flat, but confines you to a more straight body position. I can lay in my Blackbird in the fetal position if I choose. many times I will fall asleep and wake up, 8 hours later, in the same position. I have in my almost 2 years of hanging realized this simple fact: there is absolutely no reason for people to overlook a hammock system, there are so many components that you can assemble to …
Been spending way to much time in my new Warbonnet BlackBird Hammock. Made by WarbonnetGuy the BlackBird sports a radical design with a shelf inside. It is a sweet lay….. This is my initial impressions and some other bits of lotsy that I threw in just to be cheeky! Check our hammockforums.com to see more about backpacking hammocks and the folks who love ‘em…
